Zero Waste July

As the month of July comes to a close, we want to remind you of the importance of going plastic free if you have not done so yet after reading our first post of the month which challenged you to go Plastic Free this July. We ask that you seriously consider celebrating and honor plastic free July this month and beyond. Practicing and living a zero-waste lifestyle is imperative because our lives depend on it. Our atmosphere and health are deteriorating every day due to the actions that we all make every day regarding plastic. Plastic is a serious problem that must be addressed by all the inhabitants on earth for us to survive, as well as the sea creatures too.

What is “Zero Waste July?

"Zero Waste July" is a positive, mindful initiative that brings awareness via campaigns or challenges promoting a waste-free lifestyle during July. This plan is part of the broader "zero waste" movement that encourages individuals, communities, and businesses to reduce the amount of waste they generate and aim to send as little as possible to landfills or incineration.

During Zero Waste July, people are encouraged to practice making conscious efforts to minimize waste in every aspect of their lives. This initiative may involve adopting sustainable practices such as:

1. Reduce Single-Use Plastics: Avoid disposable items like plastic bags, straws, and water bottles, while opting for reusable alternatives.

2. Composting: Setting up a compost bin for organic waste, like food scraps, that can be used to enrich the soil rather than sending them to landfills is beneficial to waste prevention. Compost provides carbon sequestration.

3. Recycling Correctly: Learning about the recycling guidelines in their area and ensuring that recyclable materials are properly sorted and disposed of.

4. Bulk Shopping: Choosing products with minimal packaging and buying items in bulk to reduce the amount of waste generated. Sometimes a big box store can be beneficial for picking up bulk items such as fruits and vegetables; the cool thing is bulk shopping here can happen at a great price. You can also visit your local farmers market or grocery stores.

5. Choosing Sustainable Products: Opting for products made from eco-friendly materials and supporting businesses that prioritize sustainability like ours is always a great way to support small businesses.

6. Mindful Consumption: Being more conscious of what you purchase while avoiding items that offer excessive or unnecessary packaging is true consciousness.

7. Repair and Reuse: Repairing items whenever possible instead of discarding them is a wise thing to do. Constantly seek creative ways to reuse items for other purposes. An example would be boxes you get from online shopping, turning them into organizing boxes for spaces on your desk or packing things you no longer need.

Every sustainable practice that is listed here is doable, however, if you are not able to put them all into action consider choosing at a minimum 2 of them to get started. Zero Waste July offers an opportunity for you to be a change maker, won't you make some changes for the betterment of our world.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Zero Waste July's goal is to raise awareness about the environmental impacts of waste and inspire individuals like yourself to make long-term changes to their lifestyles that can lead to reduced waste generation throughout the year. By participating in this initiative, you can contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable planet by collectively working towards minimizing your ecological footprint. Please take a pause and decide to be an individual who will leave a positive footprint on the planet that won't be erased.
