Forming Healthy Habits for Every Season!
It is not always easy to adopt a healthy habit and stick with it due to life's everyday twists and turns. That does not mean that it is an impossible task to do though. No matter what season you are in, there are things that can be done to keep you on track to avoid setbacks or prepare yourself shall something arise without notice. This blog post will elaborate on some tips you can use to keep your foot planted firmly on solid ground if a relapse or setback comes about. There is no need to lose any of the hard work that you have started thus far, simply plan and you will be just fine.
Plan to have/use:
Journal
o Write down and be clear about your why. Why do you want to be healthy and continue to or start healthy habits in your life? The ability to feel what you write down and then see it can do wonders for your psyche. Try to make your journal apart of your everyday healthy habit change journey.
Mind-Set Change/Shift
o Changing your limiting beliefs and speaking positive self-talk can be very helpful in shifting one’s mind-set from stuck to unstuck. Sometimes all one needs is a change in thinking and words to realize they may be heading in the wrong direction. A different perspective is always helpful in something that you believed was right. There may be more than one way to try that thing, but if you have always looked through one set of lenses it may not have been easy to see life through new ones or someone else’s POV. Opening your mind to one of consciousness is powerful tool to change behaviors and habits that can last a lifetime.
Smart Goals
o The acronym stands for goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. If you have not used SMART goals before, it is time you start. If you work with any of our coaches this is one tool, we use to help most of our clients get clear on achieving what they really want or think they want at that moment. An example is saying something like “I will lose 25lbs by next birthday by making sure I eat a more healthier diet, drink more water and exercise 4x a week each month until that date.
Healthy Foods
o When you eat healthy, you begin feel happier and healthier, you no longer feel bloated and overweight. Healthy foods have the ability to protect one from unwanted chronic diseases and inmost cases nutritious ones are full of fiber and are anti-inflammatory. Be mindful of what you put in your mouth for it has so much power on how the rest of your life can turn out and eating for longevity ought to be the name of the game.
Drink Plenty of Water
o The intake of water is rather useful to all of us living here on earth. Why? Our body is made up of over 60% of water and our brain 80%. We discharge it via perspiring, urination, breathing, sneezing, etc. Water is something none of us can live without, therefore, it is something we need plenty of to function at our best. It is quite beneficial in helping blood and oxygen circulate properly throughout our body. Water is also effective in releasing toxins from our body. It is so valuable in helping us appear youthful, while thinking clearly and remembering things too.
Accountability Partner(s)
o Recruiting positive people on your healthy habits journey is helpful to keep you accountable. These people may also want to join you in what you are doing so that they can better their health too. Yes, you can hire a Coach to start you on your journey, but essentially it is always wise to have a support system outside of Coach/Client hours and that can be anyone, a friend, associate, partner, family member you name it. The goal is to not go at it alone and to not have a relapse; especially after you have made substantial progress on your healthy voyage.
Change Things Up
o If you have been doing the same thing for years, exercises, negative self-talk such as complaining, procrastinating, making excuses or being plain ole lazy. Think of that as the old you, let the new you views change you into the person you want to be. Have the new you focus on how great life is so that you can realize how important your time is and entrust it on things that you treasure vs. those that you do not. Anything that does not feel good or serve your right now, know that it is quite O.K. to change things up. You only have one life to live, and this is it. Live your happiest and healthy life starting today and make no excuses for doing so.
Be Flexible/Open
o Things happen, we cannot control everything, but when that something pops up making sure it does not ruin the healthy habits that have already been established is imperative. Handle your business, whatever meeting, or have you that has taken you away from what you had planned to do, when finish get back on schedule, so you don’t miss a beat. Let nothing and no one throw you off schedule. Keep your eyes on the end goal.
Calendar
o Track it. It is so important on this journey to have a calendar in eyes view or handy. Whether it is on your phone, an app, handheld/pocket size, on a wall, you get the idea; just have one. It would be really nice to have a calendar that you can write in so that you can glance at it often to remind you when it is time to do x, y and z. This is a great way to track where you started and where you are going. When thoughts start to pop up in your mind, because they will, telling you to give up, you will be able to see how far you have come and say “no way, not today”.
Music
o Have a positive up-beat themed playlist at your disposal to listen to, to keep you motivated throughout the day; like a Rocky Balboa song Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti or many others from the fictional character movie. Music uplifts your spirit and will help you get in that last rep or set when your mind is telling you that you can’t. Music will provide you with supernatural strength you may not have known you had. Remember, you can do anything your put your mind to and you can let music help get you there. If you are out and about in nature, don’t forget the headphones to not disturb the environment and yourself; selfless actions goes along way on this healthy excursion you are partaking on.
