Eat Cool & Clean This HOT July!

Happy July! This July, we want to stress the importance of keeping your meals cool, refreshing and lite. That’s right, eating light in the summer months can be helpful to your digestive systems and can provide you with more energy. July is a perfect month to look into healthy eating and to eat more foods that are not cooked; like beautiful, cool salads. You can make a fruit salad, a green salad, a coleslaw salad, quinoa salad, an avocado salad, chick pea salad, just to name a few. These salads among others are quite easy on the digestive system and are fairly easy to make. For those who want to add a little heat or cooked foods to their salads, you can always add some seafood and chicken, as well as eggs, sweet or regular potatoes or put together a nice bean, tTabbouleh or Mediterranean salad. Now you see there are endless types of salads that can be made during this hot Summer month; you don’t have to slave in the kitchen to get a a healthy nutrient dense meal. These salads can be made for just you or dozens of people and usually last up to 2 to 3 days and take 20 minutes or less to make.
Let me introduce you to one of my favorite lite salads of which is full of fiber, protein, B-Vitamins, antioxidants, 9 essential amino acids and good fats. That would be the ultimate quinoa salad which I put in the non-cook salad section. Back when I was completely raw-vegan, quinoa was by far my go to protein, for I could not go a day without it; for quinoa was helping me get stronger when I needed it most. I started making my quinoa just by soaking it in water over night for 1 to 2 nights depending on how much I was making. I would add my tomatoes from my yard, 1 to 2 cut up avocados, red and white onions, with an occasional scallion, olives, diced sun dried tomatoes, jalapeños and I added garlic spice it up. This was an awesome salad that took care of all of my fat, protein and carbohydrates and a little heat needs all in a single sitting. A dehydrator helped me in getting some flax/chia/hemp seeds together as a healthy cracker to go alongside this hardy salad full of endless nutrients. If you do not have a dehydrator just sprinkle one or all on top or throughout your salad; just remember they are all packed with fiber, especially chia.

You see when the Summer is here and the heat is on, as it is this month wow, you do not have to be conformed to the way of the world by eating hamburgers, tons of meal or an overload of sweets that may just tax your internal organs and make you feel bloated, sluggish and very tired. You can open your mind to eating a little lighter by changing the way you want to feel after eating your meals. There will be no bloating if you keep things simple and for salad dressing you can use a simple squeeze of organic lemon, lime or add some Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) making sure it has mother in it and you will have a delightful lite tasting salad on hand. You can even drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) on top as a salad dressing with some peppercorn for snack; "A Little." is stressed here; no OD'ing Please...Thank You! :) One of my favorite dressings for my salad is simple, Garlic and rosemary with EVOO, and a sprinkle of Cayenne & Peppercorn Pepper with Himalayan Sea Salt that has been infused overnight and then spritzed over the top of my salad; to take it up a notch, a splash of ACV, this makes the dressing super flavorful. YUM! You can make all types of variation to your salad dressings and your refreshing salad's to keep you cool while the "heat is on" this and other Summer months.
With the Heat On this Summer, what type of salads will you be exploring? How often will you be having a salad this month? How often will you be making your very own salad and salad dressing vs. eating out?
If you are unable to find the time to have a salad every day this month; start somewhere by trying at least three to five times a week whether it is made by you or for you. You will surely feel the difference in your digestive system and possibly your entire body. Even though soup may be hot, a lite summer soup with vegetables and herbs will be refreshing and harmless to your system as well. Give cheese alternatives a try as well this month, they are so much easier to digest than regular cheese. Daiya Foods has some very delicious dairy, soy free and gluten free cheese that melts and crumbles just like cheese. Oh and their cheese cake....OMG.... you would not believe how moist and tasty it is.
Please note: The 4th week in July is the start of salad week and July 16th is National Fresh Spinach Day; so now that you know this, use this Summer month to get your salad on. If you start today, you will be a pro by week 4 and ready to last an entire 7 days on various types of salads. Start with a fruit salad; berries are very pretty to see, easy to digest and full of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins; not to mention a natural sugar.
FYI: In the USA, July is National Blueberry and Picnic Month too :)
You must go a picnic and have lots of blueberries this month.
