5 Benefits of Eating Quinoa

I love how quinoa is just about everywhere these days. (pronounced KEEN-wah). I remember eating this super non-cereal grain almost 20 years ago when most people did not know what it was even though it had been around for over 3000 years. People were like keen what-what when I inquired if they had, had it? 10 years ago, it started coming of age (becoming more main stream). I could now find it all the time at Costco and if I could not, I would just ask for it and it appeared. Now, quinoa is just about everywhere from coast to coast and that is for good reason. Quinoa is a powerful nutritious super-food that has an abundance of benefits that assist in carrying out a healthy lifestyle while releasing most of the vitamins and minerals one needs to thrive in one serving.

5 Reasons to Eat Quinoa

  1. Gluten Free

  2. For people who suffer from Celiac disease and gluten tolerance, quinoa is the go-to food that will not upset the gut and will not cause bloating because it is not refined.

  3. Protein

  4. Quinoa is a complete plant-based protein packed with all 9 amino acids. Not only do vegan and vegetarians love quinoa, but so do meat and fish eaters. It also does not hurt that quinoa provides calcium, iron, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and a host of other minerals too. If you are seeking to eat a more plant based diet this is surely one ingredient that should be incorporated into your diet to keep you strong and healthy. Protein is imperative for maintaining a healthy immune system consisting of hormones & repairing muscle tissues.

  5. Fiber

  6. Quinoa is high in fiber, which means it is helpful in the lowering sugar and cholesterol levels within the body; one can also lose weight while eating it because it makes one feel full faster while allowing one to excrete excess water and waste from the body rather quickly. If one is feeling constipated quinoa is a perfect dish to help relieve that feeling along with the help of water. Bloating can disappear fast because one’s system is being cleaned out constantly after in-taking quinoa; constipation is never a concern when added quinoa to one's healthy eating lifestyle.

  7. Vegetable

  8. Quinoa is a cousin to the Swiss chard, spinach and beet family. When one intakes quinoa they are not only getting a protein, they are getting a vegetable that of course is filled with ample fiber as well as vitamins and minerals too.

  9. Easy to transform

  10. I love quinoa because I can transform it to my version of fried or plain rice, a pancake or even a burger and mix it in with sweet potatoes, salad or whatever else I like. Quinoa is very versatile, and taste great eaten as a sweet or savory dish. One can literally eat quinoa every day and never get tired of it. Use it as your replacement for things that may not be as healthy for you. Give quinoa a try you will not get bored eating it in various forms ever; I guarantee it.
