Brighten Your Kitchen with Lemons!
Many of us use lemons to improve our health, by adding them to our water or tea or holistic medicinal regime. Other times, we add lemons to our food to make flavorful dishes, but today I want to discuss how you can use lemons to spruce up your overall kitchen. Lemons are the perfect and versatile fruit that can be utilized as a natural cleaner and perfume or deodorizer for the kitchen and home too. In this blog post piece, we will discuss ways you can use this lemons to enrich everyday things you already do in the kitchen that you may not have considered before.
Lemons slow down oxidation
I love avocados as well as guacamole, so for it not to turn a dark color rather quickly on me, I always add some lemon to help it keep its vibrant yellow green hue until it is ready to be eaten or served. Lemons help slow down oxidation once fruits and vegetables are cut opened because it is full of Vitamin C.
Lemons are perfect for a natural fruit and veggie bath
Most fruits and vegetables are full of pesticides and who knows whatever else if they are not organic. The next time you decide to take bite into any fruit or vegetable period consider mixing water and lemon together and rub or spray them down thoroughly to ensure that they are clean.
Sprinkle some lemon juice on raw veggies before you steam them, it will preserve the color and have them look fresh and vibrant. (This is very visible with cauliflower)
Lemons tone down spicy dishes
If you accidentally added to much cayenne or chili powder to a dish, using a lemon tone’s down some of the spiciness. In addition, a lemon is helpful and doing the same with salty dishes too; it helps mellow out or balance out the flavors so that it is not overpowering.
Revive Withered Salad
If your lettuce is looking a little beat down, consider using a salad spinner with some water and lemon juice and let sit in the fridge for about 1 to 2 hours. Watch magic happen before your eyes because you just saved yourself some money and revived a healthy meal.
Lemon's help to eliminate odors in the fridge and overall kitchen.
Cut a lemon in half and just let it sit in the fridge for a week. Every time you open the door you will be inspired with how fresh everything smells from the fragrant natural fruit. This method is less expensive than purchasing essential oils depending on the season. However, if you do want to purchase some essential oils try out our partner brand Nature's Fusion here or get the Stadler Form Refresh Essential Oil Scent infused with lemon and lemongrass.
Leave one lemon open on a counter and you will feel quite invigorated by the natural uplifting fragrant bliss you receive. It can honestly change your mood for the better. Remember to change them out every 5 to 7 days depending where you have them located.
You can always add a few drops ( 3 to 5) to your diffuser to enhance your kitchen space too.
Bonus: Ants and flies are easily repelled by the smell of lemons; especially moldy lemons. Do consider the benefits of moldy lemons before throwing them out.
