Natural Cleaning for Better Health!

Everywhere you turn you hear something about Spring Cleaning this and Spring Cleaning that. However, though it may be the Season for a so call super cleaning of your space, doing so with the wrong products can be detrimental to your health.

There are so many cleaning products on the market that are toxic and are very damaging to your overall health, but especially the lungs. Don’t believe it? Take a walk through the cleaning aisle of a supermarket after cleansing your body; you will notice that you can barely breathe without constantly coughing because of the amount of dangerous chemicals bestowed in household cleaning products.

Did you know that the average household has more than 100 products in it that are full of toxic chemicals? This Season; decide to Spring clean your space with non-toxic goods. Become more aware and make the necessary changes to take control of your environment by engaging in the following non-toxic activities:

  1. Read & Comprehend Product Labels

  2. When considering products to purchase for your home read the labels and make sure you understand them. If you do not understand what is in a certain product use a search engine and get better acquainted; it does not take long to do. Consider whether you can pronounce the ingredients that are in the products you are checking out. If not, you may want to think about forgoing that product and keeping it moving. Many chemically induced cleaners are endocrine disruptors and mess with one’s hormones or overall health. Oh and please don’t be fooled by the pretty earth tone packaging for that is only marketing that will help to propel the manufacturer sales with no regards to your health. Natural, eco-friendly and green are sometimes just marking semantics to boost product revenues. Be smart, read and comprehend what is really being advertised to you many times it is lies; take it from someone who used to be in the advertising industry and wanted out because of this.

  3. Create your own natural cleaning products

  4. It is always wise to be creative and develop your own products to clean your space. You do not have to be a rocket Scientist or Chemist to go on this journey, you have to just want better for yourself and your environment. Not only is it pretty easy to do with less than 10 ingredients, it is not harmful to your health nor environment if done right. A simple mix of hot water, lemon, white vinegar and baking soda can take out numerous stains that may linger around the home; there is no need to spend extra monies on toxic chemicals that cost more and have no health or environmental benefits. The lemon is antibacterial and refreshing so it will make just about any room smell fresh and clean while killing bacteria. The smell of lemons is quite invigorating, it promotes liveliness, energy and clear thinking. However, if lemon is not your thing, incorporate other fruits, or essential oils such as orange, peppermint, vanilla, cinnamon, eucalyptus, lavender ylang, ylang, blends or whatever scent floats your boat; after all there are an endless variety of scents to choose from. Add a couple scents to a diffuser for this is always helpful to the environment as well; just make sure to use non-toxic oils like Nature’s Fusions line of products.

  5. Seeking to do some laundry naturally, pick up a box of borax, baking soda and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil(s) to the wash your loads and you are good to go, there is not too much difference to what you are already doing except the changing of ingredients. You will never want to go back to those household names that are filled with toxicity once you decide to Spring Clean the Natural Way. If you are not already, try using some castile soap too, for it is gentle yet good for the body, hair, laundry, the home, office and more without doing any harm to anyone’s health. It is the perfect ingredient trick to add to a load to get your laundry soft and clean. In April 2019, check out the Earthy Natural's online store for some castile soap.

  6. Need to get the hard wood floors clean too? Add a bit of castile soap to your floor solution to have the floors looking shiny without stripping it of its brightness. Caution: Never use actual lemon(s) on hardwood floors alone for it can damage them.

  7. Add Plants

  8. Lastly, freshen up your home with plant life, plants increase the oxygen flow in the house and helps everyone to breathe better. The space will become airier when plants are in existence, so pick up one and keep it fully hydrated so that it can live long and grow strong.

This Spring Season be mindful about what you put in your space, for the air you breathe in is just as important to your overall health as just about everything else you do.

Homemade/Non-Toxic Laundry Detergent Recipe

1 Load

½ Cup of Baking Soda

1 Cup of Castile Soap

1.5 Cup of Borax

(7-10) Drops of your favorite scent(s)

For sleepwear use lavender

For day wear us something uplifting scents like orange or lemon

For resolving mold try eucalyptus or tea tree oil.

If you dry clothes add peppermint to a dryer ball to freshen up clothes. (I air dry my clothes because I learned that standing in front of a dryer decreases your energy and makes you tired and I started feeling that way about my clothes that were in one too) Permanent Press and air dry is the way to go for me.
